FREE KITS FOR GRAFFITI REMOVAL

The Shire has a limited number of free graffiti removal kits available for residents affected by
graffiti.
Lisa Sheahan, the Shire’s Contract Co-ordinator Cleansing, said the trial program aims to help
residents remove graffiti, with the premise “the faster graffiti is removed, the greater the chance it
will not reoccur”.
“Free kits are available for residents affected by graffiti, and larger graffiti removal systems are
available for loan by Chambers of Commerce, nominated sporting clubs and
community groups,” said Lisa.
The Shire is also working with Mitre 10 in Sorrento, Blairgowrie and Frankston to
provide a system of vouchers available through the Customer Service for discounted
paint to rectify graffiti on private property.
“This graffiti removal project aims to empower the community and groups within the
Shire to take control of graffiti on their own property or the property of their
members.”
“The faster graffiti is removed, the greater the chance that it won’t happen again. It’s
hoped that the timely removal of graffiti will lead to the prevention of graffiti into the
future. The associated damage to other infrastructure and the prevention of other
issues such as  litter and vandalism may also result. Removal will also increase
community pride and empower the community to take notice of and report other
issues that affect their local area.”
If you are affected by graffiti, and would like to discuss a removal kit, please call: 1300 850 600 or

How to Draw Graffiti Letters

This article is just a quick step by step thing on graffiti letters.

  1. Start by learning letter structure. For a while you can put down the pen and markers. First try sketching just normal keyboard letters. Use bars by keeping and keep standard widths throughout the letters.
  2. You can now begin to mess around with your bars a little bit. Try making bars that bend different way, bars that get bigger or smaller or change the corners up a bit. But notice that the letter structure stays the same.
  3. Once you are comfortable doing that, you can add 3-D to your piece. This is done with a vanishing point where all the lines point to.
  4. Lastly, you can color your piece. It's nice to add some type of a halo or force field type thing around it so it stands out.
You should look in comics or on the web for help on these things because they have really expressive words and backgrounds.
    • You can learn from others but never copy someone else's work. That's the number one rule of tagging.
    • You can also try adding extensions to your letters to make them look cooler. This takes time to get a feel for where they can go to still look good.
    • You could trace graffiti out of magazines just to get the feel of writing it, but don't trace it then say it's yours because that's cheating.
    • You can also use a stencil to practice.

    How to draw graffiti?

While many people are against graffiti and associate it with tasteless vandalism (which is bad), it is also an art that has been appreciated since antiquity. The Italian word from which the word graffiti was derived, coming from Greek graphein meaning "to write," was first applied to writing on walls in Roman times. While today the term is more loosely used, graffiti still generally denotes artistic writing or drawing. It can be done in a way that does not vandalize or violate the law. Over the years, distinctive styles have evolved that can be instantly recognized as graffiti, even when the writing is on a piece of paper. As with any art, there is no right way to draw graffiti, and you need to develop your own style. This article will provide you with the basics to begin drawing graffiti names on paper, along with several inspirational exampls.

    • Become familiar with different styles of graffiti. Wherever you live, you can probably find graffiti nearby. If not, visit a city. Graffiti is predominately urban. If this isn't possible, go online and search graffiti under images. Hundreds of websites showcase graffiti; take a virtual tour of styles from across the world, globe. Some pieces are high-quality, but the more you see the better you'll know the characteristic styles.
    • Write down a name on paper. Start with any word, but your name is the best choice for beginners. Most serious graffiti artists start by developing a unique signature. As a beginner, print the letters, all in capitals. Use a pencil and draw lightly for easy erasing. Leave plenty of space between letters; you'll expand them to fill in the space later. Make them big enough to work with, but not so big that it will take forever to complete the graffiti
    • Choose a style for the nameBubble letters are especially popular in graffiti, but there are other styles, too. You can have rounded or sharp edges, equally sized letters or some big letters and some small, etc. It's easier to emulate a style, and have a picture of a graffiti piece in that style to refer to. Once you learn the basics you can develop your own stylenaturally.
    • Outline the letters you have written to approximate the style you're going for. Again, use pencil and write very lightly, as you'll make many little mistakes. It will take time and patience to get the letters just right. Remember: Make the original words you wrote your guide, not your prison. Don't be afraid to alter the letters beyond all recognition.
    • Vary line thickness. You can make all the lines the same thickness, but you can approximate shading and a 3-D effect if the lines get thicker and narrower at different places. For example, the top and one side of an "o" might be very thick, while the bottom and other side is narrowed. Use your pencil to vary the thickness; you're going to darken this out with ink or marker later, so it doesn't need to be pitch black. By doing this step now, you can get a good idea of what thicknesses looks good before you make the lines permanent.
    • Add details as desired. Once your letters are as you want them, you can add additional details--with light pencil--if you choose to. Perhaps a lightning bolt for the dot of an "i" would be good, or eyes peering out of the holes in your "b". You can put a bubble around the whole name, like in comic books. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
    • Copy your drawing. Put the pencils away, so now, everything is permanent. If you make any disastrous mistake(s)--you won't be able to do much about it. Copy your drawing for a backup. Use a copier and adjust the darkness setting so that the light pencil lines show in the copy. You can also trace the drawing onto another piece of paper, but this will be difficult because of the lightness of your drawing. To trace what you have, wait until after the next step or trace a photocopy.
    • Blacken your pencil lines. Use pen or marker to darken the lines drawn with your pencil. These lines are more or less permanent, so be extremely careful. Don't be discouraged with small mistakes; you can usually fix it so nobody else will know. Say if your pen line was too thick or you were jogged and went outside of the line, just fill it in so it's 3D.
    • Add color. To fill in your drawing with colored pencil or marker, as suggested already, it's a good idea to look at examples before doing this, but really you can do anything you want except crayon. A very simple, single work of graffiti might have only one color. You can also easily do each letter in a different color or make the added details a different color than the letters. While you might be tempted to go crazy with color, sometimes simplicity is best. Graffiti artists traditionally had to work secretly for fear of getting caught--many still do--and so they could carry only one or two different colors of spray paint at a time--a lot of very good graffiti is just one color.
    • Keep practicing. If your graffiti turned out perfectly, congratulations. Now move on to different words and effects. If not, keep trying. Master the simple moves first and then work your way up--you'll soon develop your own style. Carry your own "black book" and don't copy other people's art. Copying others already tagged artwork will result in severe consequences.
